16 Mar Arrive into Kilimanjaro Airport on KLM – meet and drive the hour or so to Ndarakwai – a wilderness conservation area set at the foot of Kilimanjaro.
17 & 18 Mar After breakfast we are matched with the horses depending on our ability – gentle plodders for the inexperienced and exuberant stallions for the fearless! Two full days to horse ride in this fantastic wilderness. The area teems with wildlife and with luck we will ride amongst the herds of Zebra and approach elephants – overnights in a mobile camp. We will spend at least one night out away from the main camp in a light fly camp in the bush
19 & 20 Mar Fly from West Kilimanjaro to an airstrip near Pangani on the Tanzanian coast – we will be camping on a remote, virtually undeveloped beach called Pembe Abwe - surrounded by nothing but coconut trees! We have time for scuba diving and fishing from here – or perhaps snorkeling from the offshore sand islands and coral reefs. If we are lucky enough to get some calm weather we will water-ski and wake board in the mornings. Qualified divers can dive and novices can do a ‘try out dive’
21 Mar Now it all gets a bit more challenging – we board a local sailing Dhow – and we have three days and nights to get to Mafia Island about 200 miles to the South
22 & 23 Mar This is real sailing – no crew scurrying around raising and lowering sails – we are doing it all ourselves from the navigation and sailing to the cooking and serving drinks! (particularly the latter!) sleeping on deck … fishing off the back … anchoring for the night if the winds permit … or sailing through the night if they don’t!
24 Mar Sometime this day we hope to reach Mafia Island – beautiful beaches and stunning coral. We will spend the night in a hotel – a welcome break from the boat! – cold beer, good food and a proper bed that doesn’t move!
25 Mar A final full day of action – scuba, snorkeling and fishing – we want to make the most of it by trying to pack in as much as we can - and of course leave enough energy for a big party that night!
26 Mar The journey home begins - Fly out of Mafia to Dar and connect there to KLM.
