Sept arrive on KLM into Kilimanjaro airport in the evening—transfer into Arusha for a few drinks and chat about the trip, then overnight
Sept An early flight out to the middle of the Serengeti where we will board open pick ups for the drive into the wilderness areas of the park. These ‘Wilderness Areas’ make up more than 50% of this vast park and have been off limits to everyone since the 1960’s. Last year a couple of companies were allowed in to conduct walking safaris. However to date only a small area has been explored. We plan to go in and recce a new area—no one has walked here for half a century! Overnight in a lightweight camp.
& 12 Sept Continue our recce—walking & exploring through the park—overnighting in the lightweight camp
Sept Drive out of the wilderness areas back to the airstrip for a flight back to Kilimanjaro then a short drive to the Maji Moto Springs. We have the afternoon to try out and get used to the motorbikes we will use for the next stage of the adventure—and of course a dip in the cool blue waters of the spring. We will sleep out under mosquito nets.
& 15 Sept On the road! Head out on the trail bikes into the massai steppe—this huge area stretches for about 45,000 square miles with no tarmac roads. We will head south … following our noses ...for as far as we feel like … then camp for the night …. Mossie nets only again ….then a bacon and chapatti roll for breakfast and carry on the next day
Sept Last day of Biking takes us up into the Usambara Mountains to a funky little lodge for the night.
Sept Pile into some cars and drive down to the coast and board the yacht that will meet us there. As soon as we are aboard we set sail for Pemba and drop the fishing lines out of the back—this is Marlin country!. Anchor off Pemba for the night and sleep on deck.
& 19 Sept Two days to sail, fish, snorkel & dive around Pemba—the Island has 1000 islets surrounding it so plenty of scope for exploration.
Sept Night sail back to Zanzibar then drive the length of the Island to Stone Town— day rooms to make yourselves presentable then flight to Dar to connect to KLM and home!
