Most safaris today are mere shadows of the ‘safaris of old’ when pioneers forged their way across the wild bush of Africa. Modern safaris feature comfortable 4x4 vehicles and increasingly luxurious camps and lodges – they are fantastic experiences but somewhere something has been lost – the Endeavour? the toil? discomfort?, uncertainty? the challenge? the sense of achievement at the end of the safari?.
For the past 20 years Richard and Gary have both lived, worked and run safaris in Tanzania – they each have their own outfitting company and run outstanding trips – BUT – during the 20 years they have been on some amazing adventures together. These trips have taken to them to some of the more far flung corners of the country, they are usually rough and ready affairs that require large helpings of grit, determination and ingenuity but they are also tremendous adventures, wildly exhilarating and exceptionally good fun!.
They have decided to crack open the door on these trips and to offer them to a select few likeminded folks who are looking for something a little more real in a world where most people now are just spectators to the action. The 2010 trip will take in walking in the Serengeti , motor biking across the Massai Steppe and sailing, fishing and scuba diving around Pemba Island.
This trip is not for the faint hearted! – you won’t be passengers or onlookers – we won’t be the guides—we are going adventuring together! You will be part of the solution to any problems whether it be a puncture, a storm or getting lost! (we really are going to places that NO ONE has been for 40+ years!) you will certainly get tiered, dirty and wet and the itinerary is a guideline only so there is no knowing what will happen – but as long as you bring a willingness to get stuck in and a sense of humor that will endure hardship then it really will be the adventure of a lifetime!
